Photos from the 2015 Internazionali BNL D’Italia played in Rome, Italy. This was my first time in Rome – the city and the tournament. It’s an interesting and occasionally frustrating tournament to shoot unless you are there for one of the big photo agencies. The main court has the worst night lighting of any Masters 1000 I’ve attended, and courtside access on the main court is extremely limited due a very small photo pit. I never managed to gain access. Since I don’t have a super-long zoom, I spent most of my time on the outside courts which are a joy to shoot. Watching an Italian player (Fabio Fognini) in the sunken Nicola Pietrangeli Stadium was an experience I’ll never forget. The stadium is unique and allows people to stand along the top (ground level) to add even more support for the home player. They also lined the top of the neighboring court to look down on to the match. The atmosphere was amazing.
